Bare Metal machine never seems to "enlist" with MAAS server - Ask Ubuntu

i've seen similar questions on here, nothing quite matches exact problem. try concise can while providing details:

i installed new maas server on bare metal following instructions here: http://maas.io/get-started

the maas server has 2 interfaces set up. first on public vlan inside lab , second on private vlan inside same lab.

i have 2 additional machines (for testing) have 1 interface each setup on private vlan well.

after completing maas server setup, rebooted (pxe) 1 of other machines. saw "booting under maas direction..." screen followed bunch of activety. see cloud-init activety:

cloud-init

followed more cloud-init activety seems throwing errors around "instance_id"

cloud-init errors

finally, machine stops @ ubuntu login screen.

my problem machine never seems "enlist" or show in maas server though received initial dhcp response maas. have no information it, ip address or able log it.

any appreciated! thanks!

update

i updated default gateway of subnet private ip address of maas server. resulted in new behavior during cloud-init: cloud-init-new

as can see, it's getting 404 http:///latest/meta-data/instance_id url.

thanks in advance.
