upgrade - Can I skip over releases when upgrading? - Ask Ubuntu

i using ubuntu 10.04. know there 10.10 release, can upgrade directly 11.04? walk me through steps please?

ubuntu supports upgrading 1 version next version, or 1 lts version next lts version. need upgrade 10.04 10.10, , 11.04.

there technical reasons restriction. when new version of existing package installed has perform conversions, e.g., may have import existing settings new database format. in performing such conversions packaging scripts have make assumptions old format. if upgrades previous versions of ubuntu supported become maintenance nightmare, packaging scripts have able convert used formats current format. avoid nightmare, packaging scripts in general support upgrading version of package included in previous ubuntu release (and previous lts release, in case of package included in lts release).

upgrading directly penultimate, or earlier, version current version (called "skip upgrade) possible, liable result in misconfigured system.
