App recommendations for a new Ubuntu user - Ask Ubuntu


i'm new ubuntu user. need applications should have on ubuntu.

apps :

  • file download
  • torrents
  • video , audio players

and other apps can useful

some of applications should allready installed.

file download:
not sure mean, other browser firefox. bigger files use console , wget.

torrents:
recommend transmission

video:
mplayer

audio:
vlc player

other:
console useful tool, because pretty it. lacks usability in cases, apt-get useful quick installation, should take @ on ubuntu wiki. libreoffice, eclipse (for programming), evince (pdf reader), virtualbox, thunderbird (email) other typical applications use.

Windows XP installation, no previous version of Windows NT - Super User
