16.04 - Connecting Laptop to External Monitor with DisplayPort returns Power Saving Message - Ask Ubuntu

i'm wanting connect laptop monitor using displayport, when "entering power saving" message, followed blank screen.

monitor: dell u2515h
laptop: asus zenbook 305 (i'm testing on dell laptop , have same issue)
hdmi dp wire adaptor

does mean laptop's graphics card isn't able use displayport? if connect laptop monitor using hdmi works fine, need connect through dp may daisy chain 3rd screen.

how may fix it?

  1. rankie gold-plated dp displayport hdmi/display port hdmi cable have mentioned dp-to-hdmi adapter. in case, need hdmi-to-dp adapter.

hdmi-to-dp adapters active converters, more expensive dp-to-hdmi adapters.

  2. you can't chain hdmi dual if convert dp. (you can't promote it, limited @ level of 1st hdmi connection)

    a,c&d electrically compatible single-link dvi-d.
    b electrically compatible dual-link dvi-d.

so type b, may have passive splitter same dual-link dvi-d adapters run 2 separate monitors.
