16.04 - Blank screen after trying to fix - Ask Ubuntu


i downloaded couple of rather large files, , perhaps did software update. when went login next day in login loop. in version 14.10, thought upgrading 16.04 might solve it. did not.

i tried several of ask ubuntu suggestions, when uninstalled lightdm , installed gdm (as suggested), got black screen flashing different shades of black. can no longer ctrl+alt+f1 work console.

any suggestions? have used ubuntu several years not developer.

i had same issue few days ago. login in safe mode go terminal , update navida with

sudo apt-get purge nvidia*

Windows XP installation, no previous version of Windows NT - Super User
