disk - How to remove Ubuntu and put Windows back on? - Ask Ubuntu
i have absolutely no experience linux, , desperately need computer , running again windows.
how remove ubuntu , reinstall windows?
to remove ubuntu, need windows recovery dvd or installation dvd, or ubuntu live dvd.
note: if don't have windows recovery or installation dvd, can download official iso files windows 10, windows 8, or windows 7 microsoft download center. windows install evaluation copy 30 days without genuine product key.
using windows recovery dvd or installation dvd
grab windows recovery media or installation cd , boot it. should see or similar screen on recovery media cd.
you should see on installation media cd. click "repair computer" , should see screen first image.
open command prompt, type
bootrec /fixmbr
command prompt.reboot , boot windows. follow steps below remove ubuntu partitions.
using ubuntu live dvd , boot repair
if don't have windows recovery cd or constrained download , burn iso files mentioned before, can use boot-repair. tool fixes boot problems(windows or ubuntu). suggest using windows cd if possible.
boot ubuntu live dvd or usb
type these lines in terminal 1 line @ time.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install boot-repair
search boot-repair in dash , launch it.
to fix computer boot-repair, click "recommended repair" button. follow steps below remove ubuntu partitions.
deleting ubuntu partitions
go start, right click computer, select manage. select disk management sidebar.
right-click ubuntu partitions , select "delete". check before delete!
then, right-click partition on left of free space. select "extend volume". go through wizard , finish it.
done!
note tanner: if using extended partition, might have remove big extended partition make space unallocated.
