Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS 3.5.0-54.81~precise1 affected by dirty cow - Ask Ubuntu
my ubuntu server 12.04.4 lts running kernel 3.5.0-54.81~precise1. need patch kernel avoid dirty cow vulnerability. researching forums found release fixes bug in 12.04 3.2.0-113.155
obviously 3.2.0-113.155 released long after 3.5.0-54.81~precise1, however, because of being lower version, os boots 3.5 kernel.
my question if 3.5.0-54.81~precise1 affected bug , need change 3.2.0-113.155 or there 3.5 release fixes bug.
kind regards, pavlos polianidis
your current kernel version 3.5.0-54.81 released in july 2014. on 2 years have not been receiving bug fixes or security patches.
kernel 3.2 might seem earlier version in reality long term kernel version supported until may 2018. see link long term kernel releases: (www.kernel.org releases).
when 3.5 kernel reached end of life in july 2014 have switched 3.2 kernel lts , in respect should now.
of course keep previous version on grub's advanced menu option in case need reboot it.
