multiple monitors - No display on laptop screen when using nvidia prime - Ask Ubuntu
i'm running nvidia drivers 367.57 on precision 5510 (quadro m1000m + skylake). it's connected external monitor via displayport through dell d3100 dock. i'm running ubuntu 16.10 kernel 4.8.1.
i've got bumblebee installed, , it's working correctly when using intel graphics. when switch nvidia graphics (and of course, bumblebee can't work), external monitor shows output, laptop screen blank. xrandr sees second screen - doesn't list laptop one.
the other issue i'm seeing when using intel graphics, bumblebee works, performance worse. e.g. glxspheres running on second monitor without optirun 1/s, optirun 200/s, when switched nvidia graphics, it's 2000/s. furthermore, bumblebee, dragging on second monitor slow, typing in terminal. these issues non-existent when using nvidia graphics only.
are these issues common? there known workarounds?
update: also, bumblebee, when running glxspheres on internal screen, intel gives around 55-60/s, while optirun glxspheres gives same on external screen - around 200 mark.
update 2 i've hooked laptop dell 2715k monitor plugable thunderbolt 3 dual displayport adaptor, , shows output both laptop screen, , external monitor both intel, , nvidia (only) graphics. so, laptop screen blank when using prime when laptop's connected d3100 on usb, fine when connected via thunderbolt 3. idea how resolve this?
try xubuntu. uses xrender compositing. on thinkpad p50 same graphics, 2 external monitors & laptop panel works in xubuntu 16.04 or 16.10. gnome or ubuntu (unity) have symptoms.
