grub2 - Beginners' questions: boot & removable media setup - Ask Ubuntu
i want install ubuntu 16.04 on external usb flash drive (let's denote usb a). computer running windows 10, new motherboard.
did following:
prepared installation media (a different usb flash drive, usb b) using rufus. have 2 options in bios, either boot usb uefi or not. booted uefi.
created 2 partitions on usb a, 1 swap 8gb, , 1 ~56gb ext4. entered setup ubuntu, using "try ubuntu" option.
as setup starts, warning bios mode operating system detected, choose force uefi mode , continue setup.
@ point, installation crashes grub-efi-amd64-signed failed installation /target/
. tried repair boot-repair , "gpt detected. please create bios-boot partition” error.
i'm new ubuntu. have searched forums , while there has been many discussions on relevant topics, didn't find right answer (or maybe didn't it).
- do need rerun ubuntu setup?
- how avoid error or fix after setup complete (assume answer no).
- will running setup different computer work (the installation media usb drive, , target media usb drive)
safe boot , fast boot disabled.
