boot - Upgrading from ubuntu 14 LTS to 16 LTS, kernel panic - Ask Ubuntu

that quite long story. decided upgrade ubuntu 14 lts 16 lts. upgrading fine, until end of process froze , stuck quite long time.. ended restarting (i know, mea culpa). of course didn't boot afterwards, i tried situation live cd. tried reinstall (with option "something else.."), leaving was, wanted save data , settings. said it's installed now, wouldn't boot anyway, claiming kernel panic.. while trying fix it, i've got "no space on disk issue"..
