system installation - Installing Ubuntu after deleting Windows 8 - can it be installed in EFI (gpt) mode? - Ask Ubuntu


i want delete windows 8 , want install ubuntu, told me hard disk needs in gpt mode , have convert hard drive mbr. don't want convert or format whole hard disk. have do?

if bios legacy, format hard drive mbr bios or mbr bios/uefi. if uefi, format hard drive gpt uefi.

installed ubuntu mate 16.04 lts on decade-old desktop. lspci -k shows: 01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation nv18 [geforce4 mx 4000] (rev c1) subsystem: xfx pine group inc. nv18 [geforce4 mx 4000] kernel driver in use: nouveau kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau i wonder nvidia-* driver package need install. thought should nvidia-96 , far checked, there no nvidia-96 package available.
