boot - Create an Ubuntu Server bootable USB doesn't work - Ask Ubuntu
these instructions (https://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-ubuntu) doesn't work ubuntu server iso. doing dd if=ubuntuserver.iso of=/dev/sdb
doesn't work either. in both situations, after ubuntu server installer boots correctly, says hasn't found cd drive , stops.
i've usb stick i've put content of ubuntu server iso on it. i've configured syslinux (with no append parameter) pointing vmlinuz+initrd present in "install" folder. installer boots correctly hangs error saying doesn't find cd-rom.
if replace vmlinuz+initrd "hd-media" ones (available here) error: installer can't find iso file anywhere (which logical because don't have iso, have expanded tree on sdb1).
so can't boot ubuntu server 16.04 usb stick.
cloning current ubuntu server 16.04.1 lts iso files dd works me. use mkusb or mkusb-nox wrap safety belt around powerful dangerous dd tool.
maybe original 16.04 version bad. 16.04.1 (the first point release) debugged , polished.
maybe download {was/is/will be} bad. please check md5sum (or new copy via torrent, checks md5sum automatically).
