windows xp - reboot and select proper boot device - Super User

my old computer hard drive has crashed week ago. ordered new ide hard drive. installed hard drive. started computer, inserted windows xp installation cd. restarted computer. set boot device cd-rom drive. restarted computer again. waited untill setup should start, instead i'm getting "reboot , select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device.".

cd bootable disk, i'm not sure happening here. tried vista bootable cd test , i'm getting same message.

any ideas on how solve this? it's first time i'm getting when installing new hard drive.

are drives being detected in bios properly? quite case new ide drives preconfigured cable-select. causes problem if there's device on same ide channel that's not cs.
