16.04 - How to remove everything from free hard disk space permanently and make it unrecoverable - Ask Ubuntu
i installed ubuntu on windows 7 machine , have used few tools in past recover data ssd after has been erased. wondering if there way clean hdd in way data windows 7 cannot recovered. have 200gb on sda1 , want make sure available 200gb nothing recoverable.
sudo dd if=/dev/zero bs=1m of=/dev/sda1
be sure never want sda1
, because gone forever. on system works @ 100 megabytes per second, 200 gigabytes take 2000 seconds or 40 minutes.
if sda1
ssd both overkill , useless @ same time; it's overkill because sudo blkdiscard /dev/sda1
very faster, , useless because ssds not overwrite physical blocks. there no absolutely safe way delete data off ssd if adversary cheka; however, if adversary cheka mighty power of soviet state behind have greater , more urgent problems wiping data off disks.
