sound - USB devices disappear after Ubuntu 16.10 - Ask Ubuntu
i've been having strange issue computer ever since upgraded 16.10. have 2 usb devices connected computer (my logitech wireless adapter mouse , keyboard, , usb headset). every they'll stop working. if re-connect mouse adapter different port it'll start working again, isn't case headset. once disappears list of devices, won't come until after restart computer. not sure what's going on, have windows on same computer , 2 devices work without issue on there.
not sure if it's related, quality of actual sound card on computer has sounded pretty bad since 16.10 update too.
i able trigger loading youtube video, disconnected started playing. mouse , keyboard stayed connected, sound on headset totally out , it's not listed under "output devices". dmesg
output – money quote:
[ 186.351700] ohci-pci 0000:00:12.0: hcdonehead not written back; disabled [ 186.351715] ohci-pci 0000:00:12.0: hc died; cleaning [ 186.351776] usb 4-1: usb disconnect, device number 2
i able solve similar problem (in case usb sound card disconnect after working few seconds, bricking port connected) installing more up-to-date kernel:
4.9.0-040900rc3-generic
i downloaded .deb file architecture from, http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ , installed software updater.
after rebooting, usb device normal behavior.
