drivers - Lubunu 16.10 doesn't install nvidia-304 in kernel - Ask Ubuntu

i have used nvidia-304 lubuntu through 16.04. (with nouveau, @ time or other, screen "crashes" , have hard-shutdown)

this time, 16.10, first noticed 3 screen resolutions possible - max being 1024x768. further research showed:

the install synaptic had appeared go fine:

however, running lsmod showed no nvidia-304 module, nor did show 1 nouveau. had correctly removed nouveau, did not add nvidia-304.

un-installing nvidia-304 gets me nouveau in lsmod, finds vga monitor xrandr , monitor settings, lshw shows "*-display", , can use 1600x1200 - sooner or later have hard-shutdown...

i tried using "additional drivers" switch nvidia-304, same result. before removed package, looked through system logs, , copied out looked relevant.

what seemed important were:
"nvidia: module verification failed: signature and/or required key missing - tainting kernel"
"(ee) nvidia: failed load nvidia kernel module."
"(ee) failed load module "nvidia" (module-specific error, 0)"

can why nvidia-304 appears install, never makes kernel, , how can fix situation?

also, assume there bug here - package should report - nvidia-304 (for containing causes not installed in kernal ?) or other package (that reason causes perfectly-good-nvidia-304 package not installed in kernal ?)

i'm grasping @ straws here - considered booting 16.04 lubuntu install try , grab nvidia-304 package, since have first time installed 16.10 64-bit os, don't suppose 32-bit pkg. come compatible it...

this because of bug reported on launchpad ;

a patched version loads available in next version, ubuntu zesty, can download , install manually.

https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304

this kernel module loaded did not fix next problem (a glx error when loading unity) ... ended removing nvidia-304 package , falling nouveau, happily seems usable in yakkety.
