how happens automatic security updates make standard webserver daemons (like lamp or ssh or ftp or tomcat) not work anymore.

i run basic webserver ubuntu 16.4 lts on it. automatic security updates enabled. , there lamp, ssh, ftp , tomcat running on it. automatic security updates update apache , tomcat , myql etc... too?

i have multiple (vhost) wordpress-sites running on lamp. is there chance security updates make wordpress sites or tomcat applications not work anymore?

is worth automatic email notifications automatic installed security updates can check when apache updated wordpress or else still running properly?

or security updates 99% fine , shouldn't worry.

if installed daemons ubuntu package system (with apt on command line, gui software center etc.), there updates them (as long respective ubuntu version gets updates). may take day or 2 longer, because after project (for example apache httpd people) released new version, updated ubuntu packages need built , tested.

if installed daemons other source, updates (security or otherwise) you.

in german, have saying "man hat schon pferde vor der apotheke kotzen sehen", translates "people have seen horses barf in front of drug store". gist of is, unusual things can still happen. yes, there is chance security update interferes applications. i'd reckon chance small. risk increased several factors

• maybe deviated ubuntus standards , defaults in setup
• maybe you're running older applications no longer maintained
• maybe you're running applications less common. if, say, mysql security updates breaks wordpress, there whole bunch of people looking it, , fast. smaller projects may less agile react problems. wordpress (or drupal, example), i'd take plugins, modules etc. account, well.
