14.04 - increase /dev/sda1 size which is mounted to / (root) - Ask Ubuntu


i have ubuntu running on vmware & live production server running since 2 years. dev/sda1 primary partition , mounted on /.

i have increased hdd size 500 1tb yesterday. fdisk -l shows 1 tb size.

but won't apply in dev/sda1 automatic.

does resiez2fs command increase dev/sda1 size?

or other command require run?

please me on this.

help appreciated.

partitions don't automatically resize fill entire capacity of drive.

  1. download the ubuntu live cd , boot it.

  2. install gparted , open it.

  3. open drop-down menu @ top , select hard drive.

  4. move except /dev/sda1 right of bar.

  5. right click on /dev/sda1 , click resize. set free space preceding (mib) 0, set new size high can, , set free space following (mib) 0.
