please excuse me if has been asked many times before. couldn't find answer here or anywhere else google lead me. rich text format files. i don't wish discuss or debate preferences, okay?
what like learn how make .rtf files on ubuntu 16.04 installation cease being executable , forever until end of time!
i cannot remove check 'run executable' box under properties of each individual file. magically resets itself. have moved of .rtf files single directory, opened directory in terminal , tried using chmod command half dozen different ways remove files executable capabilities, files executable capabilities remain intact.
if executable function of rich text format files absolutely , unequivocally cannot remove, please tell me. otherwise there must ubuntu zen master (or mistress) can show me way.
open nautilus.
navigate 1 of rtf files in question , left single click on it. not double click, single left click give focus.
hover mouse on top menu bar make "file, edit..." menu appear use:

drop-down menu - click
preferences
option - click
behavior
tab - observe radio option buttons under
executable text files
- check radio button
view executable text files when opened
note though when , double click on bash script file opened default text editor selected instead of being executed.
