Can't install nvidia driver on my laptop anymore - Ask Ubuntu
i had installed nvidia driver on msi pe60 6qe laptop (gtx 960 m) running ubuntu 16.04 using sudo apt-get install nvidia-current
had performance issues, decided use proprietary driver. while getting installed, laptop accidentally shut down. after rebooting, can't neither install open source driver nor proprietary one: installation process never ends. should do?
the nividia-current
not install latest nvidia driver name suggests. install current long term support nvidia driver unsurprisingly doesn't work gtx960m.
according nvidia suitable driver versions are: 352, 361, 367 , 370 (currently beta). keep in mind later.
now, regarding issue, first of all, don't need install open-source driver nouveau
because installed , used default in absence of other (proprietary) drive.
start removing traces of previous attempts @ nvidia drivers:
sudo apt purge nvidia* sudo reboot
at point open-source should , running in freshly installed ubuntu.
open additional drivers, select , apply recommended version (check above suitable versions). reboot.
