16.04 - Admin password will not respond - Ask Ubuntu


this question has answer here:

i have ubuntu 16.04 lts. computer fine yesterday afternoon, when fired in evening kept asking me admin password. typed in correct - many times. can't computer! it's not new computer. please advise. using employer's laptop write this.

@melanie: 1. boot recovery mode grub menu (using shift key if ubuntu os) 2. after boot, go option drop root shell prompt 3. type mount -o rw,remount / 4. reset password, type passwd username (your username) 5. type new password , exit shell recovery menu 6. select resume normal boot 7. select ok 8. use ubuntu new password
