Cannot boot Windows 10 after installing Ubuntu (Windows OS is still there, Ubuntu is on separate partition) - Ask Ubuntu

i installed ubuntu 16.04 on 64 bit system. had separate partitions windows 10 , 1 older linux version installed, deleted linux partition , created new 1 same size. installed ubuntu using installer, no issues. however, needed boot windows, returned "the boot configuration files cannot found". booted ubuntu , checked hard drive, windows , stuff still there, didn't touch other partition @ all, messed related booting. here's i've tried:

  • used windows recovery disc (windows 8 one, updated 10 that) access cmd. followed various online tutorials, did bootrec /fixmbr , bootrec /fixboot no errors, bcdboot c:\windows returned "failed when attempting copy boot files"
  • got onto ubuntu, used boot-repair utility attempt fix issue. able use update-grub, detected 2 (not sure why it's 2 either way) windows installations. boot repair completed, , on startup 2 windows installations listed in grub menu. however, neither of them worked, same problem before.

willing provide log files or information necessary, didn't know needed. , prefer avoid reinstalling either os if possible, windows files still there, think it's booting issue...thank willing help
