mount - How can I fix samba mounting after upgrading from 14.04 to 16.04? - Ask Ubuntu
i upgraded media server 14.04 16.04 , has broken samba mounting. had auto-mount set in /etc/fstab
iirc looked (i've been messing around better part of 2 days it's hard remember has been added/removed):
//eir.local/media /media/nas-media cifs username=loki,password=*****,iocharset=utf8
i've tried various iterations of fixing including sec=ntlm 0 0, sec=ntlmv2 , on, problem seems deeper this. attempt @ mounting seems end same "unable find suitable address" error:
thor@loki:~$ sudo mount -t cifs -o username=loki //eir.local/media /media/nas-media/ password loki@//eir.local/media: ******************** unable find suitable address.
and in log /var/log/kern.log
following 2 lines (only) appear:
nov 13 11:55:32 loki kernel: [263331.971834] cifs vfs: error connecting socket. aborting operation. nov 13 11:55:32 loki kernel: [263331.972092] cifs vfs: cifs_mount failed w/return code = -111
i've been browsing through many questions , answers on here couldn't give concise run-down of i've tried debug (should have kept record suppose), highlights include reinstalling cifs-utils
, samba-common
(including overwriting config), trying different samba shares, using smbclient
list shares, running dpkg-reconfigure samba-common
, , of course rebooting , updating packages. i'm running out of ideas @ point i'm hoping there's obvious i've missed.
hopefully come better solution, in end had go reinstalling os. ended going mint instead though, reason handled mac mini's graphics card better too. i'll leave question here in case comes alternative answers others in similar boat in future.
