Hard Drive Info - Ask Ubuntu

i installed ubuntu 16.04 lts on laptop month ago. laptop has 500gb hd (483.9 shows up). i’ve applied updates (security, etc.), , of today, can no longer install updates. in searching way make room, i’ve noticed cannot usable information on hd, can mac , windows. cannot see how of hd used, , how unused. also, cannot see how many backups have been archived (i’d remove oldest ones make room). do?

use gnome-disk-utility. can run command line or disks using hud. should give information of of mounted disks , how full are. there text-based utilities should do.

now, analyse taking of space, can use disk usage analyzer.
