16.04 - Function Keys dont work in Openbox - Ask Ubuntu


the problem

trying create desktop environment openbox function keys dont work. besides in unity work well.

what i've tried

initially thought remapping them solve it, read , seems not possible map function keys.

i tried check packages installed related unity in order figure out if responsible making keys work, can't find usefull, despite there might be.

thought creating kind of shortcuts similar functions alst option, able use function keys.

the question

is there way have them work?

this may not complete solution, because couldn't test options right now.

the media keys in modern linux desktop environments handled using setting daemon.

xfce         xfce4-settings: /usr/bin/xfsettingsd unity unity-settings-daemon: /usr/bin/unity-settings-daemon gnome gnome-settings-daemon: /usr/bin/gnome-settings-daemon lxde    #uses openbox, didn't check kde     #uses plasma, didn't check

i tested xfsettingsd in openbox session, media keys work (brightness, switch screen, sleep, print screen) except volume keys.
