dual boot - Backing up entire Ubuntu system before disk resize - Ask Ubuntu
thanks people pointing out question broad , hard answer. here edited question:
question: create easy-to-restore system backup ubuntu 14.04 before resizing linux partition on windows-ubuntu dual-boot system
detailed requirements:
retain in ubuntu partition (/home, /usr, /bin etc)
be able restored onto resize linux partition (larger original) head of partition moved.
easy restoration: restore system "copying" or "cloning" backup file. don't have reinstall libraries, programs, or restore links, ~/.ssh ~/.bashrc or other system setup files.
i prefer softwares such clonezilla or déjà dup. happy learn using internal utility such tar, long allows requirement 3.
current disk layout:
500 gb disk (partition1 + partition 2 + partition 3 + partition 4)
partition 1: dell utility fat (41 mb)
partition 2: windows recovery ntfs (786 mb)
partition 3: windows 7 ntfs (254 gb)
partition 4: extended (246 gb)
partition 5: filesystem ext4 (256 gb) partition 6: swap swap (10 gb)
desired disk layout:
500 gb disk (partition1 + partition 2 + partition 3 + partition 4)
partition 1: dell utility fat (41 mb)
partition 2: windows recovery ntfs (786 mb)
partition 3: windows 7 ntfs (100 gb)
partition 4: extended (354 gb)
partition 5: filesystem ext4 (356 gb) partition 6: swap swap (10 gb)
final remarks: brief procedure appreciated in case missed important procedure , sabotage backup process.
i hope resizing process go without doing restoration though.

you ask lot of questions in ... well.. 1 question. site works best if ask 1 question per question, therefore answer 1 of questions:
the veryeasyway™ use clonezilla live long you:
- turn off hibernation in windows
- save clonezilla disk-to-image external, removable drive
- set
chkdsk /f x:
disks , then shut down - use gparted live resize
- first boot windows, ubuntu
