boot - How to move system partition on same hdd? - Ask Ubuntu

this question has answer here:

so have inconvenient partition config on win7/ubuntu system. wanna have extended sdb3 moved ajar in screenshot later add swap , home partition (latter on drive).

despite easy sounding explanation here how can expand partition non adjacent free space using gparted? gparted allows me put copy (sdb4) of sdb5 desired location. tried desperately make copy boot-able (uuid in grub) hours no progress far open input.

what you're trying move water without moving glass it's in, move glass , water follow!

move left edge of /dev/sdb3 (the glass) left , move /dev/sdb5 (the water) left edge! :-)

and that's why they're both coloured blue...
