this question has answer here:

is possible install ubuntu 16.04 lts without formatting target partiton??

hdd partitions: have manjaro gnome installed on /dev/sda4 , /dev/sda3 set swap. /dev/sda2 partition ntfs partition personal data. have installed manjaro in single partition. target parition /dev/sda1 has movies , videos. partitoning scheme mbr

it depend file system on hard drive. if had older version of ubuntu answer yes. note, however, if have not partitioned hard drive have /home in own partition, loose information.

if not have such partition, may not late. depending on how free space have in hard drive, create new ext4 partition , copy files there. then, when install ubuntu make sure not format partition.

if provide additional information edit answer more specific.
