Any way to programmatically set boot device to usb? - Ask Ubuntu


i want backup boot drive image on remote samba fileserver.

i planning set minimal ubuntu install on usb flashdrive take image of usual boot drive, reboot usual os.

i able leave bootable usb plugged machine time machine physically bit difficult to.

basically want connected usual os, , able issue command shut down, boot off usb, image drive onto server, reboot.

is there way this? have ideas how can achieve this?

i want make easy possible script backups of boot drive without having physically reinsert usb drive every time.
