wireless - How to unblock something listed in rfkill? - Ask Ubuntu
i think may have found cause of problems connecting wifi in ubuntu 11.10.
i type in terminal:
peter@peter-ao531h:~$ rfkill list 0: phy0: wireless lan soft blocked: no hard blocked: yes 1: acer-wireless: wireless lan soft blocked: yes hard blocked: no peter@peter-ao531h:~$ rfkill unblock peter@peter-ao531h:~$
if correct must unblock of "yes", right? nothing happens when try unblock. typing wrong command?
typing "sudo modprobe -r acer_wmi" seem have added problem, can't try click on "enable wireless"-button has been grayed out , "1: acer-wireless: wireless lan" not show anymore in rfkill list. have idea how fix that?
edit: rebooted , not grayed out anymore , rfkill list shows as:
0: phy0: wireless lan soft blocked: no hard blocked: no 1: acer-wireless: wireless lan soft blocked: yes hard blocked: no
the 0 not hard blocked anymore, guess 1 needs put off soft blocked somehow.
"hard blocked" cannot changed software, wifi toggle on keyboard or edges of laptop; device can hard blocked if disabled in bios.
"soft blocked" means "blocked software". faulty driver or other kernel module can lead connectivity loss.
