system installation - Installing Lubuntu 16.10 with Encrytion - Ask Ubuntu
as of may know, there bug in installer of lubuntu regarding full disk encryption lvm. have read @ multiple places use
sudo swapoff --all
as workaround. not work me, instead of common error message following:
autopartitioning using lvm failed because error occurred while creating volume group. check /var/log/syslog
or see virtual console 4 details.
so here part of /var/log/syslog
find relevant problem:

i not sure wrong, there seems program missing. going try installation off of alternate installer. can please give suggestions how fix problem?
it's installer bug.
choose "try lubuntu" option boot menu working desktop.
choose "start menu" -> "system tools" -> "lxterminal"
at console prompt, type:
sudo apt-get install lvm2
then run installer icon desktop ("install lubuntu 16.10").
clearly no-one tested installation method uses lvm.
