unity - How do I add an application to the dash? - Ask Ubuntu

i installed oneiric ocelot, , can't figure out how add application, stored in home directory, dash. can create launcher, want in dash also.

one way use add entry in menu's alacarte .

1. install alacarte if isn't already: sudo apt-get install alacarte
2. open alacarte typing run prompt (alt+f2)
3. click new item , fill in name , command.
4. click ok , close alacarte.
5. application should appear in dash search.

edit: solution doesn't work on new version ubuntu 13.04.
