Laptop battery drains faster in Ubuntu 16.04 when compared to other OS

the battery backup of lenovo g50-45 laptop low of around 3hrs on full charge.

this approximately double when working windows 8.1. can please suggest possible fixes overcome issue?

the first thing installing tlp:

sudo apt install tlp tlp-rdw

that automatically optimize power consumption.

if want more involved can use compiz configuration settings manager reduce visual effects

(note: can break system if dont know doing!)

you can use powertop analyze using power on system.

(note: since have installed tlp ignore vm writeback timeout in powertop)
