grub2 - Can I boot a Live USB fully to RAM, allowing me to remove the disk? - Ask Ubuntu

i have live usb made standard ubuntu disk image creator 16.04 lts. in current state, can boot disk, still requires original usb run @ times.

attempting pull drive , use system generates large amount of i/o errors, further suggesting usb drive needed things not already loaded ram (for example, firefox worked without usb, used once before already. apt, on other hand, did not.)

is there way copy entire ubuntu live disk ram, can remove drive , free usb slot other things?

you need add toram boot parameter in grub.

boot in uefi mode

boot live dvd/usb , wait grub menu appear.

highlight try ubuntu without installing using / , press e edit boot script.

search line starting linux , add option toram right after (or instead of) quiet splash, depicted above. press f10 boot modified script.

after ubuntu has booted, may eject/unmount live dvd/usb device , continue using system , available programs.

boot in bios/legacy mode

boot live dvd/usb , wait language selection boot menu appear.

enter image description here

select language / , confirm enter. boot menu appears.

use / highlight try ubuntu without installing.

to make editable boot options line appear, press f6 followed esc close little pop-up.

then can navigate cursor in boot options line using /. search quiet splash options , add toram option after or instead of them, depicted above.
