apt - Why do I have so many packages that are "newer than version in archive," and how do I downgrade them? - Ask Ubuntu
two-part question: why have many packages showing "newer version in archive," , how downgrade of them current version in archive?
background: ran updater (update-manager-core
) bring ubuntu 14.04 server 16.04.1, , have tons of packages showing "newer version in archive." i'm running problems installing new software, , need downgrade these packages.
the contents of sources.list
follows:
deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial main multiverse universe restricted deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu xenial-security main multiverse universe restricted
the complete list of packages on system shown newer version in archive can found here. generated apt-show-versions | grep "newer version in archive"
.
you don't want downgrade packages.
something in /etc/apt/sources.list, or file in /etc/apt/sources.list.d folder, point old ubuntu version.
first check, open software & updates, unity dash, , go other software tab. mine looks this:
edit first 2 entries , @ distribution field. should xenial. if doesn't, edit so.
if doesn't fix problem, you'll need edit question screenshot of software & updates/other software window me at, because there may other entries need checked.
