system installation - install Ubuntu to usb - Ask Ubuntu

is possible install ubuntu usb drive , boot without installing inbuilt hard drive? have installed on hard drive before want install usb...please tell me procedure if possible..

you need @ least 2 gb usb disk , use startup disk creator on ubuntu

installed ubuntu mate 16.04 lts on decade-old desktop. lspci -k shows: 01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation nv18 [geforce4 mx 4000] (rev c1) subsystem: xfx pine group inc. nv18 [geforce4 mx 4000] kernel driver in use: nouveau kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau i wonder nvidia-* driver package need install. thought should nvidia-96 , far checked, there no nvidia-96 package available.
