installing another language fonts in Lubuntu - Ask Ubuntu
i want type in language(nepalese specific) in abiword or libre office in lubuntu. new linux hoping
note: these screenshots outdated , need updated. don't have lubuntu , can't access it. if take updated screenshots , edit them post, appreciated. until (if happens), screenshots stay 10.04 ones.
adding keyboard language
- navigate system → preferences → keyboard.
- in keyboard preferences dialog, select layouts tab, , click add.
- you can select country , choose language , keyboard variant. note countries, such united states, may show several languages. once you’ve made selection, can preview on sample keyboard displayed below menu. alternately, on second tab, select language , choose variant. click add when you’ve made selection.
- now you’ll notice there 2 languages listed in keyboard preferences, , they’re both ready use immediately. can add more if wish, or close dialog.
switching between languages
manually
- when have multiple input languages installed, you’ll notice new icon in system tray on top right. show abbreviation of country and/or language name selected. click icon change language.
- right-click dialog view available languages (listed under groups), open keyboard preferences dialog again, or show current layout.
- if select show current layout you’ll see window keyboard preview saw when setting keyboard layout. can print layout preview out remember layout if wish.
shortcuts
- by default, can switch input languages in ubuntu keyboard pressing both alt keys together. many users used default alt + switch combination switch input languages in windows, , can add in ubuntu. open keyboard preferences dialog, select layout tab, , click options.
- click plus sign beside key(s) change layout, , select alt+shift. click close, , can use familiar shortcut switch input languages.
extra option - led indicator
if keyboard supports led indicators, can add feature notify when you're using different input method.
the layout options dialog offers many more neat keyboard shortcuts , options. 1 neat option option use keyboard led show when we’re using alternate keyboard layout. selected scrolllock light since it’s hardly used today, , lights when we’re using our other input language.
