i'm using lubuntu 16.04, dist-upgraded 15.10, on laptop. 15.10 didn't have problems display, after upgrade - started having them. 1 problem, can sort of work around, cursor disappearing; switching vts (ctrl+alt+f1, ctrl+alt+f7) brings back. however, sometimes, , gradually, text begins disappear. is, windows, task bar, lose text that's supposed rendered on them. rendering happen, e.g. icons rendered - text gone. right best can restart x. i'm guessing i'm not 1 experiencing , there's better can do. my hardware lenovo x201 core i5 m540 cpu (intel graphics i915).

i have ubuntu 16.04 , i'm using steam controller. plug in, works few minutes , stops working. stops taking input controller: can't use pad control mouse cursor, can't select button, etc. steam logo still lit , strangely, haptic feedback still works on pad. sometimes after 1 min, other times takes 5 min. doesn't matter if start steam, if run in big picture mode or if i'm playing game or not. it's same. i have dual boot machine, naturally checked if same problem occurs on windows 10. works flawlessly, no problems ever encountered. issue seems appear on ubuntu systems. tried different usb slots, different machine ubuntu 16.04. it's same. i tried installing several versions of firmware using this post. makes no difference. tried change /lib/udev/rules.d/99-steam-controller-perms.rules suggested this post, still same issue. does have idea how fix this? thanks!

everything else ok, can not display right text on popup , menu. this type of problems happen when have invalid permissions on font files. solution lies in detecting font file , correcting permission. since, of font files reside in /usr/share/fonts , can apply generic fix on them. first make root owner of files , dirs in /usr/share/fonts/ sudo chown -r root:root /usr/share/fonts -v then change folders visitable fixing permissions on them find /usr/share/fonts -type d -exec sudo chmod -v 755 {} + then use command fix permissions on font files. find /usr/share/fonts -iname '*.[ot]tf' -type f -exec sudo chmod -v 644 {} + this command lists files .ttf , .otf extension , change permissions of them 644 , required permission bits fonts. you can use command change files permissions 644 . sudo chmod -r a+rx /usr/share/fonts

i total newbie. installed ubuntu , erased windows , have ubuntu main now, have 2 questions: after finishing installation, there 512 mb partition. 8 gb swap, , 900 gb ext4, after partition disk , extension give use normal volume in windows? when try make new volume in ntfs (it have ntfs right?) give partition name don't appear name when run ubuntu. when mouse on it says ex : 500 gb , name in number , letters. you need 3 partitions. 2 ext4 , 1 swap. 1 30 gb ext4 enough ubuntu system files termed / (root partition). 1 swap can big or twice big physical ram. ext4 can rest of disk /home. personal files stored. so, ideally partition table / , /home, swap. remember install grub on mbr, not on partitions. partitions sda1, sda2, sda3. grub in sda (no numericals).
