partitioning - Can't make partition on my hard drive dev1 - Ask Ubuntu


this question has answer here:

i made entire hard drive single partition leaving 8 gb swap area..now want make 2 partitions large partition..don't know how..it shows key symbol..and can't resize either..how can resize , create more partitions?

what under stand question want re-partition root drive has acquired memory

1-first have shrink root drive doing needs unmounted

2-to un-mount drive boot fro live usb/cd of ubuntu , open gparted in it

3-you can see drive structure there select sda/dev1/ should root , click on resize drag side wall middle , click ok

4-you can see allocated space in gparted right click on select new , partition format (i prefer ntfs )

5-press cntrl+enter apply , restart done
