i change value of dirty_writeback_centisecs . after seeing tunables in powertop, there seems problem value 6000 considered bad powertop. echoes value 1500. however, change not persistent. i tried.. setting vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs=1500 in /etc/sysctl.conf , sys.vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs=1500 neither did work. also, in /etc/sysctl.d/99-sysctl.conf didn't work. the value still 6000 on restart. i guess, after changing parameters in /etc/sysctl.conf root privilege , saving , closing file, sudo sysctl -p command effect change. regards

ubuntu 16.04, fresh install today. i've tried switching each of nvidia drivers listed under "additional drivers", 367.57, 304.132, 340.98, , tried instructions here adding graphics-drivers/ppa , tried installing driver 370 believe latest. ..every time upon restart , getting past grub black screen. fix reboot , use failsafex desktop revert nouveau. there nvidia drivers might work? or other things do? edit: 367.57 if start ubuntu failsafex driver work, it's under normal boot can't far login screen. not sure failsafex differently login screen. okay, looks there problem rendering splash screen stuff why black screen. fix i've found (turn shinies off). on ubuntu grub entry, edit linux line, add nomodeset , also change splash , quiet nosplash , noquiet . instructions here on how make permanent. might find works nomodeset link suggests. i'm not sure why need change additional configs too.

i installed ubuntu 16.04 lts first time on computer, came across problem. resolution settings limited 800x600 , 1024x768. after following instructions across net, have used xrandr resolution 1368x786 (for reason, cvt 1366 786 output gets me to). problem is, screen not centered, neither seem write aspect ratio (there vertical overscan horizontally unused pixels). i using intel hd graphics , monitor syncmaster sa10 (1366x786) replaced cable. faulty vga cable; there pin missing on 1 end. the screen displays now.
