Find mime-type: contradictory results with file or xdg-mime - Ask Ubuntu

i trying find mime-type of file. used either 'file --mime-type' or 'xdg-mime', different answers? not sure understand?

$ file --mime-type -b geplugin.kmz    application/zip $ xdg-mime query filetype geplugin.kmz    application/vnd.google-earth.kmz

why have different answers? 1 should rely on?

thanks!

a short web-search google earth file format gave answer xdg-mime has more precise answer, yet 'z' stands 'zipped' fileformat, first true too.
