i'm new ubuntu user. need applications should have on ubuntu. apps : file download torrents video , audio players and other apps can useful some of applications should allready installed. file download: not sure mean, other browser firefox. bigger files use console , wget. torrents: recommend transmission video: mplayer audio: vlc player other: console useful tool, because pretty it. lacks usability in cases, apt-get useful quick installation, should take @ on ubuntu wiki. libreoffice, eclipse (for programming), evince (pdf reader), virtualbox, thunderbird (email) other typical applications use.

i'm trying install ubuntu 16.04 live install usb drive onto old "hp pavillion entertainment pc" (i think it's ~2008). in installation wizard through "welcome", "preparing install ubuntu" , "installation type" pages without obvious trouble, picking defaults way along. brings me "erase disk , install ubuntu" page, "install now" button. when click button, spins moment, , heading in window changes "installation type". rest of window contents not change, , "install now" button still there. if click on second time, i'm sent actual "installation type" page! tried few times seem stuck in loop. i've used exact same usb drive install on machine, , verified image not corrupt after downloaded it. i did run this issue earlier in process, used proposed solution on page around it. how past loop? it appears installer somehow getting tripped because of existing installation of
