Unity gone after updating 16.10 - Boots into Gnome - Ask Ubuntu

a few months ago installed gnome on ubuntu 15.10, 15 minutes later decided remove , revert unity. didn't remember how removed gnome remember reading askubuntu , after uninstalling gnome boot animation remained. didn't mind it.

last night after few unsuccessful "do-release-upgrade" attempts update ubuntu laptop 16.04 16.10, decided partially update whole system (package package) throughout whole day, logged 16.10 not unity, gnome. checked little box on login screen options select unity.

what should start using ubuntu 16.10 unity. got few customizations on unity configuration, cool keep them intact while reverting if possible.

any appreciated. in advance.

open terminal , run following command reset unity:

unity --reset

does work? if no, try reinstalling ubuntu-desktop

run following command one-by-one :

sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop

reboot may necessary

sudo reboot
