updates - Upgrading Kernel 3.13.0-83 on Ubuntu 14.04.5 LTS? - Ask Ubuntu

i have ubuntu root since years , upgraded ubuntu version whenever hosting provider offered update or if brave enough update it.

anyway, of acts private webspace family , friends , runs parallels plesk 12.5

plesk has no support ubuntu 16.04.1 lts far,so means have stick 14.04.5 lts.

as can see topic title, kernel rather outdated. if run apt-get update , apt-get upgrade, helds packages kernel updates, are:

linux-generic linux-headers-generic linux-image-generic

i learned apt (not apt-get) today , ran apt upgrade , there offered me update following kernel:

linux-headers-3.13.0-100 linux-headers-3.13.0-100-generic linux-image-3.13.0-100 generic , linux-image-extra-3.13.0-100-generic.

i have been out of loop while , i'm confused.

should stick apt-get upgrade , let tell me, keeps updates or should trust apt , let install updates? dist-upgrade solution?

ps:

i got updating kernel, since read privilege-escalation bug within kernel.

cheers,

maxunit
