startup - Obtain launch command for application from its icon returned by dash app lens - Ask Ubuntu

what general way find out command used dash app lens launch app corresponding icon?

i'm in habit of clicking on ubuntu icon in upper left corner (which believe called "dash app lens") , typing generic name of application (such "skype") launch application clicking on icon returned resulting search.

however, if want add application via "startup applications preferences" need know command used dash app lens when clicking on application's icon. skype that's easy enough "skype", not simple.

you can find software shortcuts appear in dash in /usr/share/applications directory.

if right-click .desktop file , select "properties" see command executed, when click on icon in dash.
