14.04 - Software Updater offers new updates even though computer has been offline - Ask Ubuntu

my computer offline night executing python scripts. wifi turned off , had disabled networking completely. in morning found software updater offering me new updates installed. when clicked install, updater warned me requires installation of untrusted packages. computer offline entire time. should worried nasty e.g. malicious attack had occurred during night or before went offline? distribution ubuntu 14.04.3 lts.

my assumption 2 things happened during night:

a) system automaticly ran apt update issued aptd didn't find - due no connection ,

b) downloaded packages - not regard security updates - offered updated - setup in system settings - applications & updates - updates.

this combination lead packages being untrusted, there no current hashes them. manually checking new updates either running update-manger (found in applications or sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade terminal should solve this

to sure nothing else happened, check source-lists , dns-settings, if everythig should 1 of above mentioned options
