Formatting External USB Hard drive problem - Ask Ubuntu


i'm new the linux community. upgraded old laptop ssd , installed ubuntu 16.10. plan on using old hard drive external hard drive videos , music. starting format drive , battery died while hard drive formatting. when plug in drive, doesn't show , don't know do. please help.

installed ubuntu mate 16.04 lts on decade-old desktop. lspci -k shows: 01:00.0 vga compatible controller: nvidia corporation nv18 [geforce4 mx 4000] (rev c1) subsystem: xfx pine group inc. nv18 [geforce4 mx 4000] kernel driver in use: nouveau kernel modules: nvidiafb, nouveau i wonder nvidia-* driver package need install. thought should nvidia-96 , far checked, there no nvidia-96 package available.
