On 16.10, I keep getting "waiting to install" error message for direct installation of any app (e.g., google chrome)

a simple download , install of application on ubuntu desktop 16.10 hangs indefinitely "waiting install"

use app grid or synaptic or apt-get.software center that.

to install chromium ( open source chrome without flash):

open terminal pressing ctrl+alt+t or pressing windows key , searching terminal.

type

sudo apt install chromium-browser

type password. won't see while type. type , press enter. ask confirmation again. type 'y' without quotes , press enter. download , install chromium.

but if want graphical package manager. open terminal above , type

sudo apt install synaptic

synaptic rated package manager.

if want chrome, then, download deb file site . install gdebi synaptic. , open deb file gdebi take care of dependencies , install you.
