Find Samba/CIFS version on fresh install - Ask Ubuntu


i have fresh installation of ubuntu (several versions) , want discover version of samba/cifs using mount drives. have installed nothing since os installation (except gksu , cifs-utils) , have not yet run updates. mounting couple of cifs shares via fstab expected. how discover version os using establish these mounts?

for interested, problem/bug follows.

files , folders include : or ? in titles not accessed versions of ubuntu. server correctly serving files because until @ least ubu 12.04.5 files/folders accessible. 14.04.5 file or folder these characters (and perhaps others considered dangerous windows) act thus: folders display , show contents = 0 cannot accessed; files display throw error when clicked upon. seeking exact point of breakage.

using apt-cache policy cifs-utils version of cifs-utils. if there component involved, please let me know. otherwise pursue line filing bug report.
