Ubuntu 16.04 doesn't let me to uninstall applications - Ask Ubuntu

i have need on computer , hence follow practice of removing programs know i'm not going use.

i downloaded ubuntu 16.04 lts i'm unable uninstall applications. go software center , hit remove apps want (mozilla, mahjong, solitaire, etc). seems work. however, after twenty seconds software center refreshes , apps back!! please, help! it's annoying.

is there way remove these apps terminal?

i ran similar problem. click "remove" button in software center, applications re-appear after short period. did aisle riot solitaire program, example, , kept coming back. when went remove command line, however, said not installed:

$ sudo apt-get purge aisleriot reading package lists... done building dependency tree reading state information... done package 'aisleriot' not installed, not removed 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 remove , 87 not upgraded.

after more investigation (read: blind clicking), discovered clicking refresh icon on updates tab seemed refresh installed tab (even though refresh icon not available on installed tab). after this, solitaire stopped showing up.

screen shot of ubuntu software showing refresh icon in upper left corner.

by "refresh icon", mean circular arrow in upper left corner.
